Mathematics is taught through a
daily numeracy hour. This usually consists of a mental starter, which
lasts for 10 minutes, which involves reviewing previous work using
mental strategies and encouraging speed of calculation.
This is then
followed by the direct teaching section of the lesson, which will last
for about 30 minutes. During this part the children will work in ability
groups on a common theme and the teacher will be involved in direct
teaching with a group of children as will the teaching assistant and
possibly another adult. The final part of the lesson is the plenary
which allows the class to review the main points of the lesson. |
